Are you thinking of cleaning your roof? Are you wondering when you should? Are you debating if you need a new roof?
Three major ways to know you need a new roof:
- Almost all of the roof shingle composite material is gone.
- Shingles are so old and brittle they easily snap in the wind.
- The moss has unfortunately caused irreversible damage either by water intrusion or eating through the shingles.
Most roofs can be cleaned free of moss and kept maintained before irreversible damage has occurred, and continue to prolong the life of your roof. Too much moss on a roof will keep the water from flowing, water not flowing causes water intrusion and moss to grow more aggressively.
I clean roofs free of moss by hand with a 6” soft brush and treat them every 6 months to keep moss away.
Treatment includes blowing the roof, cleaning out the gutters and downspouts and putting down an application of moss control.
Concrete and Asphalt Cleaning and Re-Sealing
When and Why?
Moss and cracks in driveways are best not left unmaintained. Water and moss resting in driveways is moisture that will freeze in the winter. When water freezes it expands. When frozen water in cracks expands it causes the cracks to get larger, furthering the damage over and over each time it freezes.
I clean all surfaces with a pressure washer, removing all unwanted moss, algae, and debris, leaving a fresh clean finish to then apply a coat of sealer. The sealer coats and protects the surfaces from future damage and moss growth. The sealer also works to fill in the cracks preventing the water from settling, freezing, and causing further damage.
